Portland, Oregon, April 12, 2018: Liberty Cold Storage, an Illinois cold-storage operator, has completed installation of an industrial refrigeration system that dramatically reduces the amount (charge) of ammonia refrigerant used in traditional systems. Why Liberty Cold Storage chose this technology is examined In the April 2018 issue of Accelerate America, published online this week.
Published 10 times annually by shecco, the worldwide expert in natural refrigerant news, Accelerate America is the first news magazine written for and about the most progressive business leaders working with climate-friendly natural refrigerants in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Accelerate America is viewable online at no charge at http://www.acceleratena.com. In addition, print copies are distributed at major North American trade shows serving the HVAC (heating, ventilation, air-conditioning) and refrigeration industries, and mailed to key end users in food retail, foodservice, cold storage, food processing and other sectors.
Liberty Cold Storage is one of the first cold-storage operators in the U.S. to install a specially designed evaporator system from Colmac Coil Manufacturing that substantially cuts the amount of ammonia refrigerant in comparison to a traditional industrial system – to 7,500 pounds, from as much as 80,000 lbs. This reduced charge improves safety and keeps the facility out of the range of many federal and state regulations. Unlike packaged low-charge systems, the centralized Colmac Coil system employs a traditional engine room design.
The April 2018 issue (volume 4, No. 34) also reports on: a new study by shecco looking at trends in the low-charge ammonia marketplace; new guidelines on low-charge ammonia technology from the International Institute of Ammonia Refrigeration; and California’s adoption of the EPA’s rules restricting the use of high-global-warming HFC refrigerants.
Also featured: an update on regulations and codes impacting the use of ammonia refrigeration; reporting from the exhibit floor at the AHR Expo and the IIAR Natural Refrigeration Conference & Expo; and saving energy via condenser cleaning.
